Our Story

The Crisis App

People helping people in times of crises

Our purpose

The devastation from the 2019-2020 bushfires across Australia was immense and heartbreaking, followed swiftly by floods and the global COVID-19 pandemic. At the same time, the generous spirit of not only the Australian people, but people all over the globe began to surface. The Crisis App was born from a desire to better connect the generosity of those offering help with those who needed help.

We saw so many everyday people offering to help in all sorts of useful ways - accommodation for two people, three generators, a box of nappies, free paddock, feed for livestock, pet boarding, shopping for elderly, and more. Crisis App began as a Google Sheet where people could post and find offers, and quickly scaled into a web-based app.

Our team of volunteers is continually improving the search directory, the matching capabilities so that every day people can help and request help in times of national crises - from fire, flood to global pandemics.

Who are we?

We are a group of skilled and committed volunteers passionate about making a difference and focused on helping people through crises. We're spread across the globe, integrating disaster response lessons learnt from Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, Maria and Nate, along with the lived experiences of our team members.
